EU legislation aims to reduce the use of single‑use plastic products and encourages a shift toward reusable alternatives.
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which entered into force in 2025, aims to reduce the amount of packaging waste and promote the recycling and reuse of packaging. In the future, consumers should have the possibility to purchase takeaway food and beverages in their own containers or in reusable packaging. The objective is that at least 10 percent of takeaway meals will be sold in reusable packaging by 2030.
Since new operational models require several iterations before the process works optimally, we have published recommendations for municipalities and event organizers on how to increase reuse.
The publication gathers insights and tips for organizing events that promote reuse. Its goal is to encourage, provide ideas and lower the threshold for municipalities and organizers to start increasing reuse at events.
Municipalities and regions play a key role as enablers and frontrunners of the circular economy. Through their procurement practices, they can guide the development of services toward more sustainable solutions.
