Resource efficiency for construction in the Pori region
The City of Pori is promoting resource-efficient construction in the region and bolstering cooperation between construction sector operators with regard to the circular economy.
The project efforts will involve putting together a cooperation network of developers, construction companies, property owners, authorities and institutes of higher education. The network aims to find and implement good practices to recycle and reduce construction waste.
Good use for construction waste
The obligation to recover construction waste as material will increase to 70% by 2020. The selected demonstrations aim to achieve a 70% recycling rate in different styles of buildings, such as educational institutions, detached houses, apartment buildings and new construction.
Other project measures:
- life cycle assessment of construction materials for two housing fair homes
- extending life cycle thinking to procurement processes
- carbon footprint calculations for two small houses
- applying the Ministry of the Environment demolition review guidelines to demolition sites
- thesis: Small house carbon footprint and construction waste (Sanna Lindgren, 2020, SAMK)
- thesis: Resource efficiency in a multi-purpose house project (Sara-Tuuli Siiskonen, 2020, LUT)
- model: Taking the circular economy and climate into account in construction
- plastic pilot: Collection of packaging plastic at apartment building construction sites
- monitoring waste sorting of the construction site of a prefabricated house
- guides: Energy guide and Construction site poster
- development of the spare part bank operations (pori.fi)
- dissemination of information to private and public parties of the construction sector
The Pori subproject is part of the Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) programme, where a network of 136 European cities helps other cities to develop smart, responsible and sustainable growth using advanced technology. Pori is participating in the ICC program in the Green economy and local green deals thematic track. Pori participated in the ICC 2nd City Lab virtual event on 16–19 February 2021 and organised its own strategy workshop targeted to stakeholders on 11 February 2021.
